Gyokusuisai’s art was influenced by the paintings of Tan'yū Kanō (1702-1674) who was an influential member of the Kanō family of Japanese artists. In 1766 Gyokusuisai published a book entitled Gazu Senyō (i.e., Selected Essentials of Painting) with woodblock-printed pictures drawn in the Kanō style. They included the twenty-nine pictures of flowers and (or) birds shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
